Murray Racing Adds New Miata To Racing Fleet

With an ever increasing competitive field in Spec Miata, Steve Murray added #36 a 1999 Miata to the race fleet, with immediate results finishing just outside the top 10 in a field of 55 starters at Sebring earlier this month.

We competed at Sebring in the NASA event March 29th & 30th. Extreme changeable weather conditions. Team SLR competed well achieving 2 podium finishes.

SLR At The Sebring Majors Jan 14th Proved To Be An Eventful Race

Sebring Majors Jan 14 tuned out to be a little more exciting than usual for SLR driver Steve Murray. After a rocky start due to less than ideal qualifying results , Steve pushed his SCCA stock Miata to the limit and gained 17 spots on a field of competitive drivers from around the nation.

The win was not to be however when the steering on Steve’s car was disabled after a breaking a joint sending the car into the wall hard.

Steve was uninjured in the crash but his chances of competing further in the race were over as the damaged Miata needed substantial repairs before getting back on the track.

Steve had this to say about the race, “despite a poor qualifying run SLR was on track to have a great finish. Moving up 17 spots against these talented drivers was a great achievement in the race and I can’t help but wonder how things would have gone without the crash. But that’s part of racing, the challenges can come from many directions and this time it was mechanical failure. We are focused on getting our car back in racing form and getting back on the track for the next race.”

SLS Motorsports, the Murray Homes Racing Team, Has Won First Place at the Daytona Classic held by the Central Florida Region SCCA.

Steve Murray, owner of Murray Homes Inc., a Sarasota Florida Luxury Home Builder, drove his SLR Motorsports Mazda to victory with a first place finish of the endurance race for Production Class cars. Murray pushed his lightly modified sports car for 35 laps, more than 122 miles, at the Daytona International Speedway to finish the endurance race with the winning total time of 1:32:16.222 and one of the fastest lap times of 2:26.398.

Murray also claimed 2nd place for an 11 lap sprint just seconds off from a first place finish. Murray had this to say about his successful endeavor at the SCCA Daytona Classic, ”At Murray Homes we are very competitive by nature and always striving for perfection. Nothing embodies that idea better than racing, except maybe the homes we build. To have such success at Daytona, one of the world’s most well-known tracks is great. Especially when we have been racing such a competitive and skilled field of drivers.”

Murray Homes has had success off the track as well.
The company renovated and updated their new office located in a Sarasota School of Architecture icon, designed by famed architect Victor Lundy. Ever Competitive, Steve Murray Surpassed 35 Other Drivers at the Regional SCCA Held In Daytona.

Steve Murray, owner of Murray Homes Inc., a Sarasota Florida Luxury Home Builder, drove his SLR Motorsports Mazda to a 15th place finish. Steve pushed his Miata past 133 MPH and out paced thirty five of his competitors when the checkered flag was waved.

Murray had this to say about his successful endeavor at Daytona Classic, ”Building homes requires the utmost in concentration to get the most from yourself and your team. Racing cars is not too far off from that, however bump drafting at 133mph is a lot more fun, if not as rewarding!”
